Relic British MKII helmet of the 53rd Welsh infantry division with battle damage

Here's a relic British MKII helmet of the 53rd Welsh infantry division with battle damage. It would have had a rough overpaint back in the day. It’s the only relic British lid in my collection.

The 53rd (Welsh) Division was a Territorial unit which first saw service during the Great War of 1914-1918. They didn't see active service in the Second World War until they landed on the Normandy Beaches late in June 1944, as one of the reinforcing units after the main Normandy Landings. The Division then fought in the break out of the Normandy Beachhead, through occupied France and Belgium into Holland liberated s-Hertogenbosch october 1944, and crossed the Rhine into Germany in 1945.

The battle damage inflicted is most likely from an enemey sniper round, the leather liner and webbing chinstrap has long since rotted away. Probably due to poor storage or simply being buried underground. Items such as these really show the true cost of war.
